Brunch…best meal ever. Everything I had at Uncle Bill’s was delicious! After a meal like this, it’s best to take a stroll around the area. Lots of cute boutique shops nearby. Not to mention, the beach is just a few minutes walk away!

Hours:
Mon-Sun    5:30pm~2:00am

Make reservations if you have a big group or going there on the weekends. 02-2567-3331

One of the big ones on the street full of Taiwanese Rechaos

Something for everyone!

Don’t worry, it’s not that spicy!

Bitter melon (bitter gourd) with salted egg

It is not for everyone. A lot of people dislike the slightest taste of bitter melon. Personally, it’s one of my favorites and I get it every time.

Salted egg is a preserved egg that has been soaked in water with salt (brine). Read more about it here!

It is egg tofu which has been fried only until the skin turns brown, which leaves the inside extremely tender. Another personal favorite of mine.

KiKi Restaurant does it the best! Click here! Then again, KiKi’s dish is twice the price.

The standard dish to get! But it’s not extraordinary here.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Rechao (熱炒, “hot fry”) is a casual Taiwanese restaurant to eat and drink inexpensively with your friends. If you notice, most of the dishes are 100NT.

There are many other famous rechao restaurants on ChangAn East Rd.

Fu Hang Dou Jiang

Name:
Fu Hang Dou Jiang

Address:
No. 108, 2F-28, ZhongXiao E. Rd. Sect. 1, ZhongZheng District, Taipei City (located on 2nd floor of HuaShan Market)

Hours:
Tues-Sun     5:30am~12:30pm
Closed on Mondays

Woke up REAAAAL early for this local favorite.

I guess not early enough! ALL these people are more dedicated patrons than me.

A little window into where the magic happens.

They speak Chinese and Japanese! Apparently this dou jiang shop has made it onto Japanese guidebooks of Taipei!

This will probably last me two meals.

Dan Bing 蛋餅 (28NT)

It’s cheaper and larger than a usual dan bing. Unfortunately you can’t add corn, cheese or ham to it. =D

Cold Soymilk 冰豆漿 (22NT)

Yes, the traditional way of drinking soymilk! From a bowl!
FYI, the warm soymilk is 2NT cheaper than the cold soymilk.

Thick “Bing” Flatbread with egg and “Youtiao” Chinese Donut

The name of the dish is extremely difficult to translate into English.
This doujiang joint is most famous for their Thick “Bing” Flatbread, so it’s a must-eat here! It’s definitely worth the wait.
This monster of a breakfast is definitely quite heavy for the morning but it is quite delectable once in a while.
Fu Hang also serves a thin version of the flatbread, which is flakier.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Definitely worth a visit!!

But personally for me, waiting for the MRT is the only waiting I want to do in the morning.

Tartine

Name:
Tartine Bakery

Address:
No.13-1, Lane 49, Anhe Rd. Sect. 1, DaAn District, Taipei City

Hours:
Sun-Thurs     11:00am~8:00pm (Closed on Mondays)
Fri-Sat             11:00am~10:00pm

Il pleut comme vache qui pisse (It’s raining like a cow pissing) – French saying, in honor of going to a patisserie.

It’s pretty quaint. Only 4 tables and a bar seating. Notice how everyone is of the female gender…

Macarons!

Pastry shelf!

Genius behind it all – Melissa Chang.

So they offer two set menus – a savory set and a sweet set.

Soup-Sandwich Combo (295NT)
Soup  + Entree/Main + Drink + Macaron

Latte

Tomato Beef Soup + Smoked Salmon Sandwich with Lemon Caper Dressing

They included both set’s macarons on one plate. The left one is passion fruit and cream cheese. The right one is salted butter caramel.

Dessert Set (350NT)
Macaron + Cookie (value of 45NT) + Pastry (value of 150NT) + Drink

Mocha – looks like Christmas =)

Lemon Pound Cake

Pistachio St. Honoré Cake

————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Of course you can individually order but you save a little bit with the set menus.

I love this place. The quality of the macaron and pastry is on par with any of the other big French patisseries. This is a perfect place for a mid-afternoon break.

Fun Fact!

St. Honoré Cake is named for the French patron saint of bakers and pastry chefs, Saint Honoré or Honoratus (d. 600 AD), bishop of Amiens.

Make Reservations if you have a big group    (02)2621-2634

Located right across the street from RegaLees Hotel

It’s actually a very spacious restaurant but you should still make a reservation if you intend on going during prime mealtimes.

Bitter Melon with Salted Egg

This dish combines two distinctively Chinese elements which may make it a little less appealing. Some people dislike the bitter melon but the bitter melon loses a lot of the bitterness after it’s been cooked. All I got to say is..don’t knock it ’til you try it!

And if you are curious about salted egg, Wikipedia has a page for salted egg! Wikipedia – Salted duck egg

I do believe the more popular Chinese is 客家豬肉 but the menu has it written as above.

I love the simplicity of this dish. Pork, salt, garlic. That’s it. Most of the meat is the fat of the pig but that’s the delicious part anyway!

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Large Footprint serves Thai, Chinese and Hakka style cooking. It’s a local favorite and crowded on weekends. All the dishes are served in family portions.

I am not sure if they have an English menu or not but their menu does come with pictures.
