MEOWVELOUS

Name:
MEOWVELOUS CAFE & RESTAURANT
貓下去西餐快炒小館

Address:
No. 38 XuZhou Rd., ZhongZheng District, Taipei City
台北市中正區徐州路38號

Hours:
Tue – Sun     5:30 pm~9:00 pm
(Closed Mondays)

Reservations recommended! They only pick up after 3:00pm. 02-2322-2364

The restaurant setup is like a long hallway: one side for the diners, one side for the kitchen.

It’s a classy night. Open that bottle of red wine. 900NT for a bottle.

Complimentary soup – broccoli soup. The bread is outsourced from Boite de Bijou, a popular bread/dessert shop in Taipei.

Seared Seafood Mix (270NT)

Bold flavors and refreshing!

Romaine Heart Salad with Crispy Chicken Breast (260NT)

The egg is the centerpiece of the salad!! I speculate the chef cooked the egg half way, just enough for the egg white to solidify. Then continue the egg yolk cooking with a blow torch! This leaves the yolk with a creamy, gooey texture. YUM!

80z Rib-Eye Steak with Fries (580NT)

Satisfactory piece of rib-eye! Seasoned, tender and not over grilled.

Cheese Risotto (300NT)

With brown butter, mixed vegetables, apple, bacon and hash brown.

Don’t doubt the flavor combination! But the hash brown is still an interesting touch. I’m not complaining since hash browns are delicious!

Daily Special – Pork Knuckle (550NT)

If you are a fan of pig knuckle, you should definitely try theirs when it is available.

Lemon Tart (100NT)

Nothing too out of the ordinary. But it is delicious!

Found this on their wall! The little girl from 川島小鳥 Kawashima Kotori’s photography! She is adorable.

In my opinion, Meowvelous serves quality food for reasonable prices. To put it simply, it’s a great place to convene for special occasions without having to ball out.

Definitely make reservations days in advance, especially for parties of 2 or more. Space is limited; there are only 5-6 tables in the restaurant.

Casual dinner with a friend~

Casual ambiance

The bar area

I like this menu pic I took…haha

Chef’s Salad – Chicken, Ham, Tomato, Mozzarella Cheese (350NT)

It’s a pretty basic salad. But I do love the mozzarella cheese, quite an exquisite treat in Taiwan.
I did expect it to be a chopped salad. =/

Cleopatra – Pizza with Brie Cheese, Smoked Salmon, Onion (380NT)

It’s not everyday you would have brie cheese with smoked salmon on a pizza!! Both brie cheese and smoked salmon are delicate, I commend their adventurous spirits! And in fact, I really like this combination! Maybe add a little dill next time…oh the possibilities!

Bacon and Shrimp with Pumpkin Sauce Pasta (350NT)

THIS is a dish to try! Pumpkin sauce is so underrated!! One word to describe the flavor….rustic. Minus the bacon and shrimp, I can imagine this dish served to a large family after a long day of harvesting. =)

———————————————————————————————————————————–

I definitely would go back to Mr. Paco. It’s decently priced and the food is quite delicious! And I don’t feel low-class when I put my elbows on the table. haha

VVG Table

Hours:
Mon-Fri     5:00PM~11:00PM
Sat-Sun    11:00AM~11:00PM

Love the decor

A little tease for what’s after the main course

Rosemary Roll with Pesto Sauce (complimentary with dinner)

The roll was good by itself. It had a simple yet pure flavor. Add some of their homemade pesto sauce and you get yourself an earthy combo.

MAIN COURSE

Lamb Champvallon served with Anchovy and Black Olive Couscous (680NT)

Tried a piece of the lamb and it was good! Slow roasted until it was tender. No gamy flavor, which I prefer. The server suggested to sprinkle of some the sauce onto the couscous to add more flavor.

Seared Lemon & Pan-fried Chicken Salad with Lemony Ginger Vinaigrette (340NT)

Salads. I love salads. I love this salad. Light but not boring. The skin of the chicken was pan-fried to near crispiness, just how I like it. Warning: Don’t eat the lemon alone! Even if it’s been seared, still very tangy. But tastes great with the chicken!

DESSERT

Upside Down Banana Cake (220NT)

I really wanted the Beet Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting so this didn’t seem all that exciting. It’s good but not memorable. Light cinnamon and banana flavors.

Sticky Date Pudding with Toffee Sauce (220NT)

AH-MAZING! Had sticky date dessert for the first time over Christmas and I’m completely in love with it. It’s a really sweet cake, which is slightly uncommon in Taiwan. That toffee sauce…can’t get enough of it. My favorite part of the cake/pudding is the bottom part, where it has been submerged in that sugary delight! Highly recommend it!! I want to come back just for this!!

—————————————————————————————————————————————–

It’s slightly pricey but what do you expect from the VVG family. Here are the entries from when I went to VVG Bistro and VVG BonBon.

A-Plus Dining Sake Bar

Name:
A-Plus Dining Sake Bar
花酒藏 A-Plus

Address:
No. 33, AnHe Rd. Sect. 1, DaAn District, Taipei City
台北市安和路一段33號

Hours:
Lunch     Mon-Sun    12:00PM~3:00PM
Dinner    Mon-Sun      6:00PM~2:00AM (last call 1:30AM)

It’s kind of awesome they are opened so late!! Quite rare in Taiwan.

What a smart idea! That’s plum wine.

Burdock Roots Salad

Fish Liver

Duck meat from the rivers of Yilan (a county in Taiwan)

More duck!

Cold udon with sesame sauce

Mushroom with Cheese

Grilled riceballs with salmon and salmon roe

Steak with hot sauce and honey mustard sauce

Coconut fried shrimp

————————————————————————————————————————————

There were 12 people, 800NT per person for this whole meal. Slightly expensive (Taiwan standards) but it IS a sushi bar! It might not look like a lot of food but, trust me, by the end of the meal you will be full.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to have any fusion sushi rolls, e.g., California rolls, Spider rolls. Might have to go back for those. Nice place to celebrate special occasions. =)
